The Crowne Plaza’s Entertains Royal Visits

1939royalvisitSince it’s opening in July 1929, the Crowne Plaza Fallsview has seen it’s fair share of royal visits. Formally known as the General Brock Hotel, the Sheraton Brock Hotel, the Brock Plaza and the Skyline Brock, this boutique hotel is recognized for its notable guests.

Dating back to June 7th 1939, King George of England and his wife, Queen Elizabeth visited Niagara Falls as part of their cross-Canada tour. During their visit, they stayed at the General Brock Hotel where over 10,000 school children gathered to greet their majesties.

In 1951, Princess Elizabeth, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Brock Plaza hotel prior to becoming Queen Elizabeth II.

Seven years later, Queen Elizabeth II’s sister, Princess Margaret, followed her footsteps and also called the Brock Plaza her home during her stay in Niagara Falls.
A few years later in 1960, the King and Queen of Nepal dined with Mr. Albert A. Bonnet, the General Manager of the Brock Plaza Hotel, in the Rainbow Room overlooking the beautiful falls.

Millions of dollars have been spent to preserve and enhance the original elegance of this landmark building. To this day, the Crowne Plaza still remains the stunning hotel that it was years ago!
